The patch??? - Birth Control Message Board

Has anyone used the patch? Does it have the same amount hormone's in it as the pill? Can it help with menstrual cramps and flow? Are there side effects like the pill? Weight gain...........irritable etc. I dont know that much about the patch.................thanxs.

Ortho Evra is just as effective as other methods of hormonal birth control. It also has the same side effects (both positive and negative) as other hormonal birth control methods, so it may lighten your cramps and menstrual flow. There is also the same potential for negative side effects as well.

You're exposed to about 60% more estrogen using the patch vs. most birth control pills.

So what happens if you are exposed to more extrogen than birth control pills? Can it result in more negative side effects? Thanxs for the replie's....i dont know that much about the patch.

the studies are not final on the patch.. one study says you are, one says you aren't. They way the estrogen is given is so different it's hard to directly compare the two. I was on the patch for a year until switched to something else and I had not negative side effects. The lower the estrogen the better though since higher estrogen can give you a higher chance of blood clots.
