please help!! is this normal!!! - Birth Control Message Board

Hi ladies, I am new so if this post belongs somewhere else I apologize.
I am trying to get some answers. I am on Lutera(a low dose pill) this is now my 4th month. The first 2 months were great, I lost weight and had no bleeding other then my period week.

May I missed one pill. Doubled up the next day thought everything was fine. Then when I had 3 active pills left I started spotting brown stuff which eventually turned into a period. My gyno said it was most likely cause of the missed pill. The bleeding stopped I started my new back, haven't missed a pill, didn't take one late nothing. Then when I had 2 active pills left I started the same thing again. Why would i get breakthrough bleeding after months of being on it? could this be a bad sign? usually it stops after a few months.
Could this still be because I messed up lasty month?

Could be. The lower dosage pills are more likely to cause breakthrough. It could also be a sign of infection.

It's not an infection. If you read the package insert that came with your pills, you will see that spotting and bleeding can occur while using the pill. In fact, if you do a little more research about it, you will see that breakthrough bleeding and spotting are probably the most common side effect of taking the pill. It doesn't matter how long you've been taking it, it happens a lot and there is nothing to worry about.

I was on the pill for more than 15 years and I had spotting and breakthrough bleeding sometimes, but I didn't have a spaz about it because I did the research. You shouldn't just blindly take any medication just because a doctor gives it to you without first understanding the risks and discomforts associated with it. Just because a doctor gives it to you doesn't mean it's safe.

The pill is a steroid, and like any steroid, there are consequences to its use. Just do some research about breakthrough bleeding and spotting and you'll see that it's honestly the most common adverse event experienced by women using the pill.

But if it's really bothering you a lot, then switch pills. There are so many different types of pills out there, you may find one that doesn't cause you to have that problem.
