I've been on Depo for the past 2 years, and I keep gaining weight. I've gained around 50 lbs, which is just crazy. I'm having migraines left and right, they won't go away. I don't want to stay on depo too long, because my bones are brittle enough, and I'm lactose intolerant.

Before then I was on ortho-tri-cyclen 28, and some other pill, but I couldn't deal with my high blood pressure on them.

My PA told me that she didn't want me on pills due to my blood pressure, and that Depo wasn't only going to make me more miserable.

I'm too big for the patch now that I've gained this weight, and I don't want to deal with the ring, because I can't even stand a tampon and I'm afraid it would fall out.

The only option I feel is if I have is the IUD - which the PA said I probably won't be able to get, because I'm 19. I've been married almost 2 years now, and I don't see why I wouldn't be able to get it, considering the fact that I'm only with one person and I don't plan on having kids for 10+ years.

I'm supposed to be refered to an OB within the area, but I won't be able to get in for 2-3 months. My depo shot is due on the 30th of this month, and I'm sick of it. We can't use condoms because we have a problem keeping them on his penis, because I have a serious problem with getting wet and they end up coming off.

Are there any more options? Or should I just deal with the depo?

I just gave up on hormonal birth control completely. It made me gain weight, caused me to be very moody (strained my marriage), and have NO sex drive. Nothing worked. Only now that I'm off hormones am I feeling any better, so trust me, you are not alone. I don't have a high pain threshold so I couldn't take the thought of the IUD. I've just been having to use condoms in conjunction with learning to do FAM (Fertility Awareness Method). FAM is actually more effective than people realize; it is the rhythm method that has a very high failure rate.

If you have problems getting wet (and I'm sure Depo will do that to you), have you tried using a good lube--KY or Astroglide? That was what I had to do when I was on the pill as I couldn't get wet at all--now, though, this problem has improved for me as has my sex drive, thank God, because I've heard some women are never able to recover theirs after being on hormones.

well actually I meant I get tooooo wet - this happens every day of my life, and I dont think there is anything I can do about it - I almost leak, and I think its genetic, because my mother said she was the same way

If I tried lube, I'd be floating

Hi,

I was on Depo as well and had a lot of bad side effects and my doctor didn't want to put me back on the pill so i got a IUD(parguard) and it's great. Some doctors don't suggest it to women that haven't given birth cause it can expel easier but it can be done. I haven't had any children and the produre wasn't painful and it's still in place even after a year. I would deff. suggest looking into it than going on a hormonal BC.
