Confused!!!

I've been on depo provera for about 2 years I think.

I know the shot causes my depression, but whenever I am going through a depressed or an angry mood swing I replay things from the past that have hurt me, like my boyfriend cheating/being lied to/ect. I don't know why I do this, maybe to make myself cry... ugh it's so confusing. My boyfriend says I'm an emotional masochist. I truly have forgiven him for these past things but I still remember them and somehow call them up when I am feeling sad. Am I crazy? I am really scared because sometimes my mind races and I feel lost and out of control, but other times I feel totally normal. I hate this feeling and I want to stop the shot but I'm afraid to because I don't want to get pregnant and I don't trust any other kind of birth control.

Does anyone else have this problem? I am thinking of buy some St. John's wort to ease the depression (I don't think I can afford prescription antidepressants, and my mother doesn't think I should take them since I had no depression before the shot)

Any help would be extremly appreciated.

Re: Confused!!!

Depo provera is not a very good birth control in terms of your health. I was on it for 3 years with no problem, but I have heard the horror stories from my friends of what it can do to your body. My doctor told me it is not safe for teens to take it more than 3 years because of the bone density issue, that was why I was taken off of it. I know depo is a hell of a lot easier then taking pills everyday but there are other forms of birth control like nuva ring which you wear for 3 weeks and take it out to have a period. And patches, where you change them every week for 3 weeks, and then wear nothing to have a period. There are also other long-term birthcontrols like cervical caps which I know nothing about but I don't think they are reccomended for teens. Just talk to your doctor about different birthcontrols, she will give you the run-down on EVERYTHING!

Re: Confused!!!

Well, I have been looking into some different kinds of bc, but I read that the Nuva Ring can fall out if you are having a bowel movement (eww) but it will still work normally if you reinsert it within 5 minutes or something (ewwww) and as far as pills go I don't want to rely on my memory for something that important, lol. My aunt was on the long term diaphragm (sp?) thing (albeit many years ago, I'm sure they work better now...) but it made her have 2 or 3 miscarriages and I don't want that either, so... I guess I will just stay on the Shot and start eating/taking more calcium to keep my bones and teeth from rotting away.

But is there anything that can help the depression? Like a food or herb? It makes me feel like I'm going insane sometimes and I HATE not feeling like myself!!

Thank you for the reply, btw!

Re: Confused!!!

i would talk with your doctor. treating depression should be first priority. there are so many options out there that are available. i would try different antidepressants along with staying on the shot and seeing if anything helps. you can also try to exercise and be outside in natural light more to help enhance your serotonin.

Re: Confused!!!

It's quite regular thing that your mood is out of contral when you take hormone con*****tives. You should not take anti-depressants, you just have to find your individual oral contraceptives which won't make you harm.
