Ortho Evra patch & Depression/Paranoia????? - Birth Control Message Board

So I have been on the patch for about 3 months now... and it has totally gotten rid of my migraines I used to get with my periods, they are also lighter and shorter and that is fabulous..

However, I am feeling sometimes like I am really depressed/paranoid about certain situations that dont' need to be stressed over... It's usually worse with the 2nd week's patch...I feel real emotional about stuff that I really shouldn't be emotional about. It was really bad this past week.

I mean, I am going to be honest... I am going through some stressful times, I broke up with my serious boyfriend 6 months ago, I am in the process of moving, and trying to figure out a new relationship I am in.... But I've been in stressful situations before and never acted like this. I am calling my people almost every night pratically in hysterics over these situations... it's not really like me...

So I am wondering if I am going crazy or if I can place the blame on the patch and the horomones it is pumping into my system!!!!

Well, it could certainly be the hormones in the patch (or all the stress). But, I did have a bad experience recently on the pill (Ovcon35)--I was highly anxious, moody, and depressed. I started waking up feeling on the verge of tears every single day, which is unlike me. I do have a history of depression, but even when my depression was at its worst before treatment, I NEVER acted like that and usually, morning is my most hopeful time of the day. I stopped the pill because of some other side effects, and within a couple of months, my mood and attitude was back to what I was accustomed to. I am certain it was caused by the pill. I'd suggest stopping the patch for a couple of cycles and detoxing--see if your mood improves; then, if you feel up to it, trying another pill or something to see if those side effects come back. You MIGHT do better on another form of hormonal birth control, or you might not. It's pretty much a toss-up.

I have been on Ortho Evra for two years now. The first 3 or 4 months I was on the patch I felt a lot more stressed out and depressed than usual. I evened out after the first few months and went back to normal. It sounds like you are dealing with a great deal of stress right now so maybe you should try sticking it out for a bit and seeing how you feel in another month or so.
