| Re: birth control & PMS/PMDD
Actually, I got on Ovcon 35, and it made me such a mess, I gave up birth control pills altogether. They have a lot of side effects doctors DON'T tell you about--breakthrough bleeding, little or no sex drive (it's a fact most women on the pill for awhile have no sex drive), water weight retention (I gained 20 lb. in water weight in 1 month), and they can make you even MORE moody, depressed and anxious. I was a basket case. I thought I had a serious mental illness, then I stopped the pill, and felt much more stable moodwise in a couple of months. So, if you're prepared to risk all that, then try the pill, but personally, I'd try herbal remedies/vitamins first. It's not so devastating on your body. The worst part is these side effects on the pill can creep up on you over the years and you don't even realize the pill is causing you so much trouble. Then, I stopped the pill 7 months ago, and my cycles STILL are not normal. Supposedly, this is also normal. I'm wanting to start a family in about a year and I hope to God I'll be back to normal by then. I truly believe half the women needing treatment for infertility have had their problems brought on or exacerbated by the pill.
You can try taking Vitex (chaste tree berry) throughout your cycle to help with PMS. Some women also have good luck with evening primrose oil, a B-vitamin supplement, and a good calcium supplement as well.
