| Re: Urgent help - Do we need the morning after pill?
Well, if you think there's a possibility, the sooner the pill is taken, the more effective it is. Do you know where in her cycle she is? If she has regular 28 day cycles, she'd probably be OK if she's in the first week of her cycle (just off her period) or in the mid-3rd to 4th week of her cycle. From about day 8 to day 20 of her cycle (depending on when she ovulates, around day 14 is the most fertile day if her cycle is textbook perfect, so just before to 2 weeks into her cycle is riskiest), she'd be in her most fertile time, so I'd definitely spend the money on Plan B if that were the case. Cycle day 1 is the first day of her period. So say she started her last period on Jan. 11. Jan. 11 would be cycle day 1, and today would be day 12, a pretty risky time, given sperm can survive 5 days in fertile cervical mucus.
You can also ask her if she noticed in vaginal discharge the day before or the day of having sex. If she had discharge resembling uncooked eggwhites, that is very fertile cervical mucus, the type sperm survive best in and it occurs around ovulation, when a woman is most fertile. If she had this, definitely get Plan B.
The withdrawal method is not a very foolproof form of birth control. Definitely, you shouldn't rely on it if you don't want a baby.
