Loestrin 20 - Birth Control Message Board

I have been taking Loestrin20 for 2 months and feel terrible. I have a constant pain in my left side, breast pain, abdominal pain and tingling in my arms. My periods are not in tune with my pill free week, this one has started 4 days before the end of the packet! Has anyone else suffered like this???? Please!!!

hi. i'm on the generic version of loestrin, called microgestin 1/20, and i have not had any side effects so i hope you will ask your doctor about yours. we are similar in that my period is not in tune with placebo's either, i think this is normal but i will check with my doc tmrow. good luck.

I've also been taking the generic of Loestrin20 for 2 months and I am very happy. I'm 44 years old and going through peri-menopause and have found this birth control is very agreeable with me. Once starting through menopause, I noticed weight gain and daily headaches. I told my OB-GYN and she recommended Loestrin to combat the headaches thinking I was getting too much estrogen from my previous pill. I think it has done wonders. I really appreciate that I don't have headaches and a plus, the huge appetite is gone. I also take the lowest dosage of Lexapro to help my menopause symptoms. I'm much happier and less moody. My periods have gone from 2 days to almost nothing. I believe this to be an answer to the peri-menopausal women, but it doesn't seem to have the same effect on those young women who just want to go without a period but have the safety of birth-control. As an added benefit, I take Vitamin B complex at dinner time and recommend it to anyone looking for a better night sleep and a boost to your day.

You can always switch pills, there's no reason to stay on the brand that was prescribed. You've been on for 2 months already and it seems like these problems should have cleared up by now. Yeah, yeah "they" say to wait at least 3 months, but I don't see why you should have to feel bad all the time.

My best advice to you would be to call your doctor and ask for a different brand. While I seemed to have good luck with the generic Loestrin - microgestin, that doesn't mean you'd have the same reaction. Everyone is different, so you may find a completely different brand with different formulation might work better for you.

It's a total crapshoot when choosing the right pill. Some women find they can't take any of them. But until you try other brands for a few months at a time, you'll never really know if any of the others might work for you. I'd personally stay away from Seasonale and Seasonique, though. Those seem to have a ton of problems for all women who take them.
