What pill is right for me (or you!?)

Hello all,

I just recieved my presecription for Seasonale in the mail this morning, and dedcided to do some research. I realize, this is probably something I should have done before shelling out $100 for it. Woops. I was scared out of my mind by the things I have been reading about this pill. "Excessive weight gain, depression month long periods" and more. However, I've also read some not so bad things.

I was on Ortho-Tri-Cyclen for many years (age 15-22) without a single problem. I am now 24 and have decided to get back on the pill. I tried the old ortho standby, but wierdly, it made me really anxious. I think my body chemistry has changed with age a bit. Now I am trying Seasonale as I have really rough periods (something I also never had to worry about when I was a teenager) and would love to not be laid up for three days. After what I have read though, I'm afraid to even start it.

I guess I have a few questions.

1.) Is there any way to ever know what pill is going to work for you. Is it really just a guess and check game until you find the kind of hormone/ dosage that works for your body's particular chemistry?

2.) Is there any pill, through anecdotal evidence, that seems to work really well for a lot of women... that is, do you know a ton of people who take one brand and love it? I've asked my gyn this questions, she refuses to endorse any one type.

2.) ANY information on seasonale, good or bad, would be greatly appreciated. Especially, if say, after a month I have gained forty lbs and cannot have sex, can I just stop taking it?

Thanks!!! This board is a wealth of great info and I really appreciate to forum to share experienes with other women

There is no one pill that works for everyone. And anecdotal evidence is not evidence at all, at least not in any realy, scientific way, and doctors and health professionals rely on scientific evidence, not anecdotal, which I imagine, is why your OBGYN will not endorse any one pill, even if she has "heard" it works well.

Women's bodies are unique. A pill that works for me may be horrible for you, so there really isn't any concrete way to tell how a pill will effect any one person until she tries it.

You can stop taking any BC pill at any time. Don't stick with something if you don't like the s/e's or whatever.

I had a really bad experience after taking Seasonale for 2 months. I had been on Ortho Tri Cyclen for about 12 years (off and on). I decided to try Seasonale and after two months I ended up in the ER with multiple blood clots in both of my lungs. I was 26 years old at the time. I don't smoke and my only risk factor was the BC.

1) No there is no way to know and Yes its just a guess and check game.
2) No there is not One Pill that magically works great for all because, see answer #1.
3) It totally sucks and I wouldn't even feed Seasonale to my worst enemy.
