Opinions? - Birth Control Message Board

Well, I have again decided to take birth control after a few years of taking OTC and OTC Lo and HATED it with a passion. I have mild acne (which surprisingly is clear for the most part now), and it is persistent. Next month, I am set to go on either Accutane or Spironolactone, whichever I prefer. I need to be on BC for Accutane, and how my BF is coming home from Iraq, I need the extra protection.

My OB-GYN gave me two prescriptions to try, one for Yaz and one for Yasmin. I don't really want to mess my skin up too much, so I can potentially avoid more meds, and I want something that will decrease my chances of breakthrough bleeding, etc. What are your opinions on which I should take? Any personal experiences? Any help is very much appreciated! Thank you!

I've been on yaz for over 6 months now and I love it. I had virtually no side effects at all. I never had any breakthrough bleeding. The only side effect I have ever had was swollen breasts for one week of the first pack. The benefit of yaz over yasmin, is that your period is shorter. With yaz you take 24 active pills and only 4 placebos, on yasmin you take 21 active and 7 placebos. Of course everyone reacts differently to BC pills, so there is really no way to know how you will react to yaz or yasmin. My advice would be to try yaz first, since it has the extra benefits and see how it goes.
