Hey Desperate!
I was actually looking into these pills and did a lot of research. I haven't made the switch yet, but I hope I can help!
These pills actually work a little differently than the others, because they don't have estrogen. Instead of stopping ovulation (well, they may or may not still stop it), it makes the layer of mucous thicker on the cervix. I'm also on Ortho Tricyclen, and with this pill, I might take it one day at 6pm, and the next day maybe at 10pm. With pills like ortho, etc., having this fluctuation in time isn't "that" risky, as long as its in the same time frame (in the evening, in the afternoon, or in the morning - whatever one you chose to use). With the Mini-pill, if you're late by three hours or more, this heightens the chance that you may become pregnant. With "perfect" use (taking it every day at 6pm, for instance), its just as effective as the other pills.
Because it doesn't have estrogen, side effects that one might get on pills like ortho (migraines, nausea, breast tenderness), are not as common and usually only "sometimes happen" or happen very rarely. The one change that is common is a change in your periods. If this is your first pack of mini's, your next period may come as early as one week from when you should get it.
Hope this helps!!
If you do experience severe breast tenderness or any other symptoms that are really bothersome, I'd go to the Dr. to see about some other options
