Is there any point? please help me

About a year ago, I developed what my Planned Parenthood nurse called Secondary Amenhorrhea (lack of periods after already having them). To "regulate" me, she put me on birth control pills. Which, of course, "worked".

However, as I did research, I learned that this is only withdrawl bleed, and is not actually "fixing" anything. And that's the only reason why I would need to be on the pill. I don't have sex, ever. And if I did (which I wont be..personal reasons), I would not WANT pregnancy to be stopped, because that would probably be the whole point for me.

So the question would be..is there any point to me continuing to take them? Like I said..not fixing anything..not having sex...and the price (33 bucks a month) is too high (for my cheap mother..who brings it up that she's paying for it at every chance.)

Maybe go to another doctor for a second opinion. Also, I don't know how old you are but maybe look into getting a part-time job to help your mom out with the costs.

Re: Is there any point? please help me

I think bc pills can be beneficial if you were having particularly painful periods, bad acne, or hormonal problems, but if you're not having sex, and if you did, would keep the baby, I don't see why you should waste your money. Not to mention, you are putting unnecessary hormones into your body when you don't need to be.

Don't get me wrong, I'm on bc, but if I wasn't avoiding pregnancy, then I wouldn't be on them.

Re: Is there any point? please help me

I agree, FaymeLevy, there doesn't seem much point. It probably would have been more beneficial to you to find out what was causing your Secondary Amenhorrhea in the first place, not just cover it up with birth control pills.
Anyway, if you're not using them for birth control, I don't see the point in spending the money or messing with your hormones unnecessarily.

Re: Is there any point? please help me

Thanks so much for all replies. I may sound very young, but I am in my early 20's. But can not get a job due to mental problems. And getting her to take me to the planned parenthood nurse was a year long fight to begin with.

The cause of the Secondary Amenhorrhea is most likely my weight (im obese), and anxiety. I did have an exam, and there's no cancer or anything, so i don't believe it to be THAT serious anymore.

I think when this pack is done and I go in for more, I will simply ask the nurse if there is any point to it. No sense spending 400 bucks a year on a false period, and, if i become sexual active, blocking a pregnancy that I would want.

As I understand it, my eldest aunt had similiar problems with her period all her life. She has 2 daughters now, but I hear it was a real difficulty getting pregnant. Im more concerned about that, for, as you can probably tell, im pretty family-oriented.
