Actually, ovulation does still happen in a lot of women. That's only one of the ways the pill tries to prevent pregnancy. It does other stuff too that works against conception so even if you ovulate, it should still work.
As for your spotting, it could be implantation bleeding but that usually take a few days, not the next day. Wait til your normal period is late before worrying about it. Then you can take a test. If you've been taking your pills properly, then I'd be more inclined to think it was just mid-cycle spotting rather than a pregnancy. Good luck.
