Unhappy Concerns with Depo

I got my first Depo injection at the very end of January. I was on my period at the time, which ending up stopping almost immediately after getting the shot. However, in about mid-February I began a very light period or spotting if you will, but it has been continuous, it is now April, and has not stopped.

Also, my partner and I chose to ignore the spotting and have sex, I really didn't think it would be anything to worry about, but the next morning I began to bleed even worse, it was bright red and it was definitely more bleeding then I was having previously, and to add, it seems as though tissues or uterine lining is coming with it.

Now, I know this subject is not at all pleasant but I am very concerned and I would appreciate any insight offered to me.

Thank you.

Re: Concerns with Depo

When I was in high school (8 years ago now, yikes!) Depo was super popular among the girls because it meant that you were covered against pregnacy for three whole months, and you didn't get your period on top of it.

I never personally got the depo shot because I'm terrified of needles and would never subject myself to one unless it was a life or death situation (or a vaccination, of course), but my best friend did. It was horrible! Instead of not getting her period the three months, she started spotting within the first couple weeks, then ended up bleeding more heavily, like a real period, continously for three whole months.

When she went back to the Dr., he explained that this can happen and does happen more often in younger women and teens.

Sounds to me like this could be what's happening to you...probably best to talk to your Dr.

Talking Re: Concerns with Depo

I am currently on the depo shot. I started taking it in June 2006. I had a very light period for about 2 months. Since then I have not had a period. It's going on two years since I have been on it. I have gained weight, but I don't think it has anything to do with the shot. I eat too much and don't get enough exercise. My boyfriend and I ignored the light bleeding also, but everything is ok with me. Everybody has different reactions to the shot. My sister bleeds non stop on the shot. She has to take BC pills and the shot BOTH. Maybe you might have to do the same. It has something to do with the estrogen levels in your body. That's something you should to ask your doc about.

You NEED to go see a Gyno for your other problem. That could be something serious! I hope everything is OK.

Good Luck! It gets better.

Re: Concerns with Depo

These tissues that you are talking about might be clots of blood. It is normal and a lot of people get them. However, since you are on depo you may wan to go to your gyno just in case, since depo has lead to many different problems.
