pill working with antibiotics?? - Birth Control Message Board

hi i wonder would anybody be able to tell me how long you should avoid relying on your pill for protection for after you have finished Anitbiotics? Would it be safe after you have had a period?

I think its 7 days after you take your last antibiotic pill. It may depend on the type of antibiotic when I took a round of penicillin my doctor said to use condoms while on the antibiotic and for 7 days after I finished the antibiotic. Sorry I cant be more helpful you should ask you doctor or pharmacist they will know more about your specific situation.

I usually wait until the rest of the pack of pills to finish to be EXTRA safe, but I agree that it's probably 7 days after taking the antibiotics, since this would usually allow enough time for ovulation in case it does happen. I just go the rest of the pack just in case! I do wait until after a period and then I have sex again without relying on a backup method.

I always wait a full month b/c antibiotics stay in your system for up to a week.
