Well, I do know that antibiotics can effect birth control and its effectiveness at preventing pregnancy. What I want to know is how much? Is is a drastic effect or only slight? And did any of you take Birth control and an antibiotic and get pregnant. I'm on low dose Yaz and taking Amoxicillin as well and my period is not showing up and I'm having a few symptoms, so I'm just concerned. My hubby and I aren't quite ready for a baby; however, if it happens, we love it like and welcome it and be so happy. I do plan on taking a pregnancy test on Monday, when I can get one, but I was just wondering about the whole birth control and antibiotics thing. Thanks.

Well, I have an 18 year old to prove that antibiotics affect the effectiveness of bc pills. I was taking tetracycline when I got preggo with my son. I am not so sure about cillin type drugs. My doctor at the time (yes, hard to believe I remember so far back, hahaha) said cycline type antibiotics affect the pill a lot (hence the 18 yr old). Have you done a search to see about amoxicillin / bc interactions? Did your pharmacist tell you the potential effects of taking bc while taking the amox.?

I am not sure if taking your bc pills would affect the results of a pregnancy test. I went to a health clinic and it was positive right away. Not sure what type of test they use, except they did need my pee for it. Good luck to you. I hope whatever you wish to happen, happens for you.

All I know is that when I had to take medication for getting my wisdom teeth out, it said that it would make birth control less effective in large letters on the label! If you don't use backup, I'd say it's very risky. I'm not sure of any exact percentage though.
