Mirena Side effects??? Please Help! - Birth Control Message Board

Is it possible to not have any side effects at first and have them show up later? I've had my IUD since September 07 and haven't had any problems with it until recently. I haven't had a period since May, just some light spotting here and there (usually lasts less than a day and only requires a thin liner). I'm not complaining about that, but

Suddenly i'm extremely moody. I mean EXTREMELY, i feel slightly crazy at times actually. I've noticed a pattern and for about 2 wks before i should get my period i'm an absolute basket case (i just want to sit at home and cry all day), and then it just stops. I've always been cranky the week before my period but never like this. I honestly don't think i can do it for 2wks out of every month. Could this be the IUD or something else?

Also for the past few months i am extremely crampy all the time. It feels like i'm always on my period even though i haven't had one in months. I've talked to my DH about getting it removed and he said that i've had it for over a year, i shouldn't all of a sudden be having all these side effects. Of course he also doesn't want me to get it removed because its fail proof at preventing pregnancy.

What do you think? IUD or something else?

I had mine put in in July of 07, started having real bad side effects in Aug of 08, this year. Mood swings, serious dizziness, memory loss, literally falling down with vertigo. Ringing in my ears. I went through all sorts of testing to find absolutely nothing..They prescribed Meclizine, which knocked me out so bad I couldn't even work. I did some research and found a large number of folks with similar side effects....worse than that found studies that showed a high incidence of breast cancer...which I just had a double mastectomy for. I had mine removed today...am curious if there are other people who don't know why they are dizzy...and use Mirena or other hormone birth control..
