IUD strings too long after insertion ? - Birth Control Message Board

Has anyone come home after an IUD insertion only to find a sharp string actually protruding from your body? This is just nutzz the doctor didnt mention anything about that and when we called he told the nurse it was normal ? and give it the weekend? what is that going to do ? Is it true that over time it may begin to asend back into the uterus ? My daughter had this procedure done this morning to prevent cysts from forming. She was quite freaked out when I got home and could feel it when she went to wipe herself. I just can't imagine why any doctor would leave them that long !!!

Please help I'ts going to be a long weekend

When I had my IUD inserted two years ago, the nurse actually kept it long on purpose, but the funny thing was I never felt it unless I purposely tried to. I did eventually request to have it shortened at my next pap though because my fiance could feel it during intercourse.
Your daughter has every right to request this if she wishes. It's her body and she needs to feel comfortable...I would be paranoid that it wasn't properly inserted. I have never heard of the actual string hanging from one's body. Have your daughter make a call on Monday if she's still not feeling right.
