| Re: Arm Implant and Been bleeding for weeks!!
It is normal to have irregular, or even continuous bleeding or spotting when starting any hormonal method of birth control, especially with the method you are using. These symptoms normally stabilize within 3 months, but sometimes it can take up to a year. There has been some evidence that taking Ibuprofen or Motrin 600-800mg every 8 hours for a couple of days can stop the bleeding. If that doesn't work, you can always ask your doctor. Sometimes, they will give some supplemental estrogen to stabilize the lining of the uterus and that will usually stop it. However, the normal bleeding profile for this method is the same number of days of bleeding as you had prior to having the implant, but they may not be at the same time every month, and they may not be consecutive days. In other words irregular, sporadic bleeding is normal.
