Period every 2 months vs 1 or 3?

Does anyone use the pill to get their period every 2 months by skipping the placebo pills? I took my pill normally for years and recently my gynecologist recommended that I try to skip the placebo pills and get my period every 3 months (I get menstrual migraines - seeing a neurologist as well - skipping periods means less of my most severe migraines). This was working out GREAT at first without any issues. Then I started spotting and it continued for weeks! I know this isn't a huge deal, but the spotting is enough to make me feel uncomfortable and not be wanting to have sex. Somehow I still even managed to get a migraine when I would normally be skipping my placebo pills! I think maybe my body needs time to get used to the change. I thought about maybe having my period every 2 months instead for a while, then gradually go to 3 months again to see how it goes. Anybody have any advice on this? I see my gynecologist each summer for my annual, but I can always call if I need to change anything!

PS- I choose to skip the placebo pills rather than change pills to a new one that is supposed to be that way, because I am VERY HAPPY with my pill and don't get any side effects. I really don't want to risk getting side effects with a new pill. The menstrual migraines don't seem to be pill-related because I took the pill for several years with no migraines... they developed around age 18 and I am now 24.
