Stopping Loestrin 24

I never should have started this pill again. I was on it for 3 months a while ago and stopped because of the side affects that were awful. I still had an active prescription, so decided to do another month of it because I was due to get my perion while on vacation in France. I didn't want that! So I started last Sunday (did the Sunday start about 4 days after my period started). I've taken it for 5 days now and hate how I feel - bloated, angry, headaches, icky all around. I know it takes a while to settle down, etc - but I am going on vacation in a week and can't feel like this.

Last time I stopped was at the end of a pack and things were "normal". This time is different. Thoughts on what I'll experience? I'm hoping to have some bleeding in a few days that only lasts a few days so by my trip next Wed/Thursday I'm done. Wishful thinking???

Re: Stopping Loestrin 24

There's really no way to know for sure what will happen when you stop mid pack. You may bleed a lot or not at all. You may get some bad headaches or have breakouts, moodswings, hot flashes, or something. My point is that anything can happen when you quit taking the pill. It seems like stopping mid pack has more side effects in terms of prolonged bleeding because it causes some major hormonal confusion in your body when the hormone level drops suddenly like that.

But in the end, I think that if you're really miserable on the pill, then just stop taking it and deal with whatever side effects happen as they come. Don't anticipate anything in particular but also don't freak out if you feel weird for a while because that's normal. Once your body calms down and gets back to normal, it's not going to matter anymore. I know how much it sucks to be on your period while on vacation, but it's not that big of a deal. Just get through it and when your cycle regulates itself again, try to plan future vacations around your period.

Re: Stopping Loestrin 24

Thanks for responding - not very reassuring , but not unexpected. I'm just so mad at myself right now for even starting the pack last Sunday. I'd been of for several months and for some reason convinced myself that this was the way to go, when the more I think about it having my period while flying over to France wouldn't have been the end of the world. Now I'm messing with my Vegas vacation next week!

I'd stay on it if I knew the headaches would subside by next week and the bloating would go away. I was supposed to take my pill 2 hours ago and haven't yet. The Vegas trip was planned around my period - France at the end of the month I had no choice as it was my husband's work trip that came up suddenly. I messed up big time here and am just mad at myself. I need to make a decision and stick with it.
