| Re: Possible effectiveness decrease with fioricet
Fioricet has three different medications in it; butalbital, acetaminophen, and caffeine. From what I've found the butalbital in Fioricet can severely interfere with the ethinyl estradiol, or estrogen in Ocella and may cause contraceptive failure. Fioricet can stay in your system for up to a week, or two depending on how much you consume in a week. If you only take one pill a week it should be out of your system in 4-5 days. With it's interaction with your birth control I would recommend using a back-up method like the sponge or spermicide if you hate condoms for at least a week after taking a Fioricet. If you are going to have to take Fioricet long term you might want to try a progestin only pill, or mini pill. You wouldn't have to worry about a back-up method because they contain no estrogen.
Hope this helps. Best of luck to you!!
