| Lyme Disease? Desperate for Answers
Okay so this is my first time using Health Boards. I am a nineteen year old female living in CT. My symptoms are as follows:
-Increased Anxiety without reason (1 year)
-Mild Palpitations (1 year)
-Changes in vision- trouble focusing in absence of diagnosed eye problem (1 year)
-Recurring impetigo, each time was treated with sulfa antibiotics. Whenever I started taking the antibiotics the infection would clear but I'd endure a very high fever and severe headache for the first 24 hrs which would disappear as quickly as it came on. (5 times over the past 11 months)
-Sudden and high, yet short lived fevers every few weeks/months with no simultaneous symptoms. (7 months)
-Large increase in all over hair loss and hair line receding a bit (5 months)
-Gums noticeably receding. Went to dentist who said my gum tissue was fine- no gingivitis, swelling, bleeding, trauma, plaque, etc., just less gum tissue overall. (5 months)
-Irregular Periods. (4 months)
-Severe headaches that come and go (4 months)
-Constant Ear Ringing (1 month)
-Mouth numbness, mostly top of tongue (1 month)
-Odd muscle pain (1 week)
I've been to a myriad of doctors over the past month or so. Initially I blamed my earlier symptoms on stress or birth control, but now I see there must be something bigger going on. I've had almost a hundred different blood tests done- everything from full thyroid panels, SED rates, blood cell counts, vitamin deficiencies, hormone imbalances, every known STD test and everything came back perfect. I even had a CAT scan done because there was fear of a brain tumor. Thank god there was no tumor, but the doctor did mention to me that it was apparent I had poor circulation and a bit of intracranial swelling. I have been advised to change my birth control, get an ultrasound of my uterus, start taking prenatal vitamins to help the hair issue, and to begin taking spironolactone (sp?). So far none of this is making a difference- in fact my symptoms have continued to progress.
So after talking to friends and family who have had Lyme disease, and factoring in that I live in rural Connecticut and have 2 large dogs, I decided to press the Lyme possibility. Along with the rest of my blood work I had a general Lyme test that came back negative. Though I have talked to many who have had seronegative Lyme tests and fully recovered after a clinical diagnosis of Lyme or a similar tick borne infection. My doctor is flexible and prescribed me 21 days of doxy- couldn't hurt I suppose. This is my 4th day on the doxycycline. On the 2nd day I noticed the numbness in my mouth disappeared! Yet my other symptoms like headache, ear ringing and muscle soreness have become a bit more intense.
Has anyone else been treated for Lyme after a seronegative test? My biggest fear now is that this isn't Lyme and that I may not figure out what's wrong with me for a long, long time. Any ideas, input, or similar stories? I feel as if I'm going insane! Torn between hoping the doxy is working and being despressed and scared.
Thanks for any answer and God Bless!
