38, acne, antibiotic+differin 1 month, BCpill?

Hi there, I am new here as I am looking for some advice, basically this last yr I have had acne, I am 38?? Why now?
Anyway, last month I eventually visited the doctor who prescribed me antibiotics & topical gel.
After 1 month it doesnt seem to have improved much.
Its worse at my temples, chin & neck, individual deep pimples rather tham big clusters.
After reading here & there I am considering going on the pill.
Just wondering really if there are any women about my age who restarted the pill after many years off it(almost 10)
Oh and also, doctor gave me 3 months prescription, but said if you dont think its working go see this dermatologist.....just wonder if I should go see him sooner rather than later or give this treatment a little longer?
Would be very grateful for any advice or just to hear if anyone out there with (very) post-teen acne got their skin back to some kind of normal.
Thanx in Advance.
