Cerazette, am I protected?

Hello,

So today when I went to the doctors hoping to be put on the pill, I was given cerazette instead, due to my mum having breast cancer last year and being told I was not suitable for the combined pill.
Anyway, when I asked if I was protected to be able to stop using barrier protection, she said "I would be better to continue to use them and not solely rely on the pill as it is not as effective as the combined pill"

After reading up, I realise it is a fairly effective contraceptive, so I would just like some advise: am I protected from pregnancy once I start regularly taking cerazette?

Many thanks
Elle
