Today I start my blog. Something I think will help me get my thoughts out. I was involved I a drunk driving accident in March of 1989. We we're hit by a drunk driver and I was the only survivor. I suffered multiple injuries, many of which were to my legs. Fast forward to 2007. I started to have a great deal of pain in my right ankle. Saw a podiatrist and that is when I was told the severity of the arthritis in my ankle. I was also told that I would be looking at either a replacement or a fusion...

My orthopedic surgeries

Last week, I had my sixth orthopedic surgery in 16 years, on an ankle (the others were on knees and a wrist). I'm required to be nonweightbearing for some period of time. I thought that by posting some coping strategies, both before and after surgeries, my experiences might help some others here.

I like being independent and am used to doing things for and by myself, and feeling more in control of my life, so it's been difficult to adjust to being in a wheelchair, unable to exit...

Hashimoto's & AutoImmune Disorder

Posted 06-27-2012 at 07:28 AM by Apache Kristy

I'm 20 and I have had a 'bad' thyroid since I was about 13. We figured that I would end up with Hypothyroid because my mother has it, as did her mother and her grandmother. Out of five children, I was the one that got it. And unfortunatly, I think my Little sister will too. But a few months ago, after YEARS of bouncing between dosage on thyroid medication, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease and AutoImmune Disorder. I'm still not 100% sure on what that means. My doctor (whom I actually liked...

Knee Surgeries

My first knee surgery was in August of 1994, when I was a Specialist in the Army. It was a meniscus repair and lateral release, which turned out to be the end of running for me. I was running two weeks after the surgery, slowly, but it went down hell after that. A few years later, in 2002 I had another meniscus repair done. The recovery went haywire when I suddenly could not physically straighten out my leg. Someone else could straighten it, I just couldn't do it under my own control. It never...

I am so sick and not sleeping

I've been very sick with many diseases and disorders for quite awhile. I am so sick and not sleeping, evidently due to this hyperthyroidism whose cause hasn't been established. I'm intelligent, but I sound like I'm not when I lack sleep.

I was diagnosed with psoriasis, Hepatitis C, psoriatic arthritis, Type 2 Diabetes, Cirrhosis (from the Hep C) and my doctor has told me my thyroid is overactive, but he's given no real diagnosis on that yet. I'm tired of feeling crappy.
