Strep Throat for Me...

Posted 06-11-2012 at 02:25 PM by CrissyLee

Hello, I'm CrissyLee I have Fibromyalgia... among other things. A few days ago, on Saturday morning, I noticed an abnormally scratchy throat. I thought nothing of it... drank some ice water, and went on about my business; that is the least of my concerns. As the day went on a bug bit my neck while was doing yard work. It bit me in one of those "tender points". So my neck muscles began to ache deep down inside... I kept on about my business... My throat was still hurting as well... At the end of the day I had a somewhat sore throat and my neck muscles were sore and irritated from that bug bite...

Then Sunday morning I woke up to an even more horrendous sore, dry, scratchy throat... and I felt like my neck and chest were just as tight and sore as could be!!! I am only 22 years old, and this previous night I had stayed at my boyfriends... so I had to tell him goodbye quite early and quietly... :'( ... When I got home I decide to do soem examining... the outside of my neck looked ok, maybe a little puffy, swollen... It was obvious to the touch that my glands were swollen around the thraot area... So I decied to look inside at the throat area... My throat was red and had some minimal puss going on (it looked like the on-sets of strep)... I've never had strep, but I've heard people talk about it. So, I decided it was time for Wikipedia...

I Wikipedia'ed (lol) "Strep Throat" and sure enough... I was pretty darn sure that was correct! I luckily had some antibiotics at home from a previous sinus infection. It was a full script, because they double prescribed them due to the severity of the sinus infection previously...

I am so used to getting sick, and being sick, and diagnosing myself... treating myself, doctoring myself... It's terrible!!! I was in so much pain though, because of the Fibromyalgia! Which I just found out about that (which was actually diagnosed by doctor's, much to complex for me) 3-4 months ago. This whole time though at home, the people I live with are going, "There isn't anything wrong with you... If you had Strep, you wouldn't be able to get out bed, or even talk, blahblah..." Let alone do they know the pain that I am in every single waking moment of my life it seems like sometimes!!! I think that is why I can handle the common cold so well, is because I am used to feeling sick... but at the same time... It really puts a hellacious number on me!!! I feel like I've been physically beaten or been a serious motor vehicle accident!!! Either way I try to just walk around like nothing is bothering me

Then there is also the fact that usually to function on my good days... I take adderall for A.D.H.D. or FibroFog not really positive about the diagnosis there ... either way very similar situaitions from what I understand... And when I am sick, I won't even bother taking it. There is no poing in trying to function when I'm sick. If I can't concentrate, that's okay by me for a few days... all the more reason for me to get a little rest...

As you can see though... A common cold for me can be quite a hassle... and even when I get one people don't understand. It makes me so sad sometimes, but I guess that's what makes me a surviver... a stronger person
