I also have this problem (macrocytosis) and from my own research, it could be due to a number of things other than B12 deficiency. These include COPD or folic acid deficiency - especially if accompanied by high homocysteine level. Other causes could be chronic illness, alcoholism, and in older individuals, is sometimes associated with pre-leukemia. In the latter case, there would also be other lab result abnormalities.

the pre leukemia thing is scary, because she also has a dangerously low platelet count, as well as enlarged spleen.
They are going to do a CT scan to look for lymph nodes
Im just hoping its not leukemia.
