| Re: prothrombin2
Hello Tanya,
My son who is 41 has inherited Prothrombin 2 from me; I am a carrier. He developed a blood clot in his brain when he was 34 and was treated successfully with blood thinners and other medications. Several months later he had a clot in the portal vein that leads to the liver and spleen. Again, he was treated and went on with his life.
A few weeks ago my son went to a vascular surgeon who told him that he needs to take his medication regularly because he has a large clot in a leg vein. Apparently, he had not been taking his blood thinners regularly and that is a no-no. You MUST take the medication always.
Don't be worried, just take your medication and have regular visits with your vascular specialist. You need regular tests to monitor your blood levels.
