My mom just found out that she has a blood clot in a vein by her ovary. She is on blood thinners, but the Dr is very stumped as to why she got this clot in such a weird area. He has never seen this before and doesn't know what to do. Does he keep her on blood thinners the rest of her life (she's 47) cause if he takes her off will she clot somewhere dangers! Why is her blood clotting for no reason??
Anyone heard of anything like this before?

Heather, what happened with your mom? How did the doctor decide to treat her clot? I would strongly recommend she see a hemotologist if she's still having trouble and the doctor is unclear about treatment. As far as being on blood thinners the rest of her life, that will depend on whether the doctor feels she is at risk for developing further clots. It's not the worst thing that can happen. I am 46 and have been on blood thinners since I was 16 for a clotting disorder. I will be on them for the rest of my life, I presume and I live a perfectly normal life. I simply have to get a monthly blood test to maintain the proper dosage. It's no big deal. Good luck to your mom.

I'm sorry for Heather's mom and hopes she sees a hemotologist. But I am curious what kind of blood disorder you have. Is is TTP? My sister has it. If so, what are your symptoms and what medication are you on.
