Please I would like to have more information - Blood and Blood Vessel Message Board

Hi everyone,

just had my routine blood test and the GP said that everything was OK except that I have a high count of white cells in my blood. He subscribed me some anti-biotics and said that its more likely to be a cource of some infection.

Overall I am in good health and young but does anyone have any clue what it might be? My doctor thinks its because I have a chronic blocked nose(dont know the proper name) and didnt really look nervous and I didnd even book next appointment.

I also looked on the internet and it sais that it might be laukimia but I dont have aby other symptoms of it.
Can laukimia be diagnosed by having a blood test?

Yes it can be diagnosed through blood tests but you would need to be checked by a hematologist. I have a high white blood count and I know it's from active inflammation in my joints. So, don't fret about the possibility of Luekemia. Chronic Blocked Nose is also called Chronic Sinusitis. Just sit back and relax. You'll be ok.

I have the same problem, doc also thinks is an infection. What was you count at, do you know the numbers? Often times we are fighting off infections and don't even know it...the white cells get a little high...it just means it doing its job. The doc can tell if its anything to worry about by looking at the numbers of the different white cells present, seeing if there are any immature forms of specific cells and also by seeing your red blood cells and platelets- if anything else seemed abnormal then he might have been concerned.

i believe so laukimia can be diagnosed by blood test and something that my do other things like if having sign of it they will do other test to make sure it not laukimia. doc did blood test to see if i had it and other to make sure because i was having sign of laukimia

A good example of a high white count would be appendicitis, where your count rises dramatically, leukemia is also detected in blood tests, but you must have specific tests for that. A high white count is probably due to your sinus issue, actually just your body doing its job. Don't worry.
