White Blood Cell Count

Hi I just had a blood test done and the results indicate an 11.3 white blood cell count - and it's just past normal. Should I be concerned? Anybody with similar experiences?
Thanks.

Re: White Blood Cell Count

to my knowledge that means that your body is trying to fight some kind of infection.

Re: White Blood Cell Count

OK, the doctor said I could just do another blood test to see if the numbers have changed at all. Should I be concerned with the value i got 11.3?

Re: White Blood Cell Count

11.3 is not very high if you smoke cigarettes or have any rheumatoid inflammation. Dental infections will make a blood count high. What you need to look for is the percentage of each count. For instance, if the lymphocytes percentage is less than !5% you may have something going on, or if the neutrophils are too high or there are too many immature cells in the blood there may be a problem, but if all the percentages of types of white cells are about the same and within normal range, then it is probably just a reflection of inactivity or too much activity that is temporary.
