Life Expectancy - UNTREATED Polycythemia?

I'm a 67-year-old male with a couple of questions. I've read that the life expectancy for UNTREATED Polycythemia Vera is somewhere between 6 months to 2 years. Anyone know whether that estimate holds true for UNTREATED Secondary Polycythemia?

Have also read that phlebotomies and consuming more water are appropriate initial responses to a diagnosis of Secondary Polycythemia when the underlying cause of the Secondary Polycythemia has not yet been determined (and thus, can not be treated)? I'm already on daiily Plavix and aspirin for stents in the heart.

Thanks all.
