If you find out, please respond and let me know! My husband has an extremely high ESR and they have tested him for everything, plus he has had a lung x-ray and colonoscopy. The doctors can find no reason for the high ESR or SED rate.

Re: high ESR reading

Any type of inflammation anywhere in the body can cause this to happen. When I was 45 and diagnosed with moderate anemia, I also had a Sed Rate of 49 and for my age at the time it should be 20 or less. My Rheumey said that in my case it was related to inflammation in my thyroid because I also have Hashi's Thyroiditis which causes inflammation in the thyriod gland. This test is very non specific and if elevated then you should follow up with the CRP test, that is what my doc did for me and that test was normal. FLFG
