Quickly rising platelets - Blood and Blood Vessel Message Board

I had a hysterectomy on Oct 8th, before my surgery my platelets were in a great range. Last week at 2 weeks post op they were high at 517 but the doc told me not to worry. I had it repeated this week and they are 600!!!!!!!

So I am more than worried now. My doctor said it is from having surgery but how is it possible that 3 weeks post op they are still rising???
My hemoglobin is slightly low from the surgery at 115 (normal being 120-160) and WBC is slightly high at 11.1(normal 4-11) Also my RDW is high at 15.4(normal 11.5-14.5) and neauts high at 8.3 (normal 2-7.5)
I dont understand why they are all so messed up when they were fine before surgery!!! Can platelets actually rise with post op surgery?? My doctor said it was part of the healing process, infammation etc but I am truly terrified. If you can shed any light on this I would be very thankful. My doctor tends to ignore all my questions so I have little trust in him.

It's true, platelets are reactive, and they will rise if you have an infection or inflammation. Also, they go up and down - even in a day. There's not a significant difference between 575 and 600. My hema doesn't worry unless my platelets go over a million and stay there.
