| | Hemochromatosis- Maybe?
Most doctors don't seem to know much about hemochromatosis- grrrr
I first got high iron readings about 7 years ago- I stopped taking iron supplements and my iron went back to normal. I didn't worry about it much after that- just watched red meat intake, etc. My doctor at that time said it *might* be hemochromatosis, but didn't seem worried ( I am a pre-menopausal female).
My most recent bloodwork shows high HGB, high HCT, and high MCH. I moved to a different city so this is a new doctor. She did not mention hemochromatosis AT ALL. The elevations are very slight, but I'm thinking I probably do have hemochromatosis?? I have no symptoms, thankfully. I do have slightly elevated blood pressure; that's the only symptom I can think of. It's odd that I have high BP; I am not overweight, eat a very healthy diet, and work out almost every day.
I guess the next step is to find a specialist- should I go to a hepatologist?
Just trying to take care of this before it DOES become a problem!
