MPNs/Polycythemia Vera Diet

Hi!
I was wondering if anyone with a myeloproliferative neoplasm has experimented with diet with any good results. Has anyone tried a high-protein diet that includes meat, poultry or fish? Thanks!

Re: MPNs/Polycythemia Vera Diet

Sorry, I'm really not disciplined enough to stick to a strict diet and, in any case, my house-husbanding role would make it difficult... two menus for most meals. (I'm mostly retired while my wife's profession is still active.)

I have, however, found (almost) that a significant amount of chocolate may lead to a serious bout of itching-sweating-chills. But that's not certain since there might be as much as a 36-hour interval between the two and I often have symptoms without having eaten chocolate.

My one success, as reported here earlier, is a dose of Ambien every night to control night-sweats and itching. Without it I would often go for a week at a time with no more than three or four hours of sleep a night. With it I almost always get seven hours of restful sleep... sometimes more.

Thanks for the reply Ron. Do you eat much beef, chicken, fish, eggs or dairy? All the people I know with MPNs don't, so I wonder if there's perhaps a B12 deficiency. Brian

Re: MPNs/Polycythemia Vera Diet

I eat all of the above though not much fish. And I take a Vit B complex pill daily.
