Re: low white blood count

There are several things that can cause low WBC, so a little more info would be helpful. How do you feel in general? Any symptoms of illness? Do you have any viral infection currently? Autoimmune disease? Are you on any meds? (Low WBC can be a side effect). We can be more helpful if you can tell us a little more. Welcome to the boards!

Re: low white blood count

It could be from spasm in the small arteries, common in autoimmune disease. It is often accompanied by color changes to the fingers or toes, turning purplish, dead white or bright red. It is called Raynauds. I would ask Dr to check some other labs related to autoimmune diseases, like lupus, which causes both Raynauds and low white cell counts in your range.

Re: low white blood count

Greetings! Welcome to the General Healthboards Sneaker111! I am sorry about the low blood count and hope all the needed support is received. This is not a promise of cure. I might use some foods that might be useful for a weak immune system which may include: acerola, kiwi, tomato, garlic, onions, lemon, grapefruit, oranges, ( I would not bother with the frozen, boxed or canned unless nothing else is available) cabbage, radish, propolis, barley, cranberry, raspberry, melon and citrus.

Some foods to avoid: sugar, shellfish, fat, coffee, alcoholic beverage, milk, chocolate, cheese, spice, coffee, and soft drinks.

There are special doctors who work with blood disorders if desired. Of course everyone makes their own health care decisions in life. Peace sjb :)

Would love to get some follow-up and feedbaqck from you when you find out more. The hematologist should be able to get to the bottom of this. Hope it goes well!

will let ye know... yesterday evening i notice i have a rash all around my neck, its like goose bumps to touch and can only see it under certain light. And neck is sore on right had side as well. I don't know if this is an allergy to something, because i am out with lambs and sheep at moment so am using straw. And maybe i just slept wrong to make neck sore. Does a reaction to something cause a rash like that just all around your neck and no where else. R is it something to do with LWC

Re: low white blood count

Sneaker, I would wonder if the rash is from sun exposure, since it sounds like you are outdoors a lot. The sun can cause a photosensitivity rash only on sun exposed areas. This could be related to the low WBC in that photosensitivity rashes are common in lupus, and occur particularly early in the season on areas normally covered up during the winter. If you can see it, try to take a picture of it. Be sure also to show it to the hematologist when you go there, and please make sure they run appropriate tests for ruling out lupus. In the meantime, I would use sunscreen generously and not rely just on that. I would cover your neck with a scarf or turtleneck to prevent further sun exposure, and wear long sleeves, long pants, and a wide brimmed hat for your face. If the rash itches, an antihistamine usually helps, but it could last several days. Getting a picture will document it for future visits if you see a rheumatologist and the rash is gone. Keep us posted and best wishes.

Re: low white blood count

Greetings, :) A person in my family is allergic to the wool on the sheep. Sometimes certain weeds such as ragweed, straw dust or other pollens in the atmosphere can also cause allergies in some people. Sometimes moisture around the clothes from sweat can allow the germs in that area to grow. It is best to try to keep natural cotton clothes that absorb the water and sweat from the body. Synthetic materials can act a bit as a plastic bag around the body holding in sweat and can make a person feel clammy. Peace, sjb :)

Re: low white blood count

Thank's guys once again. Its great to get other people's opinions. Yesterday was actually the the first sunny day here that i was out in this year. Its been cold weather the last few months. In real sunny weather i do come out in red lumps in sun but this goosebump rash is different. I have been around sheep for the last 10 years so i don't think its wool. Roll on next week.....thanks again

Greetings! You are welcome! Some people get infected hairs. A dermatologist might give better answers than us since we can't really see it anyway if desired. :bouncing: sjb
