Unhappy Bone and/or muscle problems please help

I have fought since childhood with problems with the bones and/or muscles in mainly my legs and feet. It started out in early childhood around the age of 8. It started one morning when I woke up and I could not walk. I could not even stand up, each time I tried I would fall. We live in a rural area, so my mother took my to our "family doctor" who was a old country dcotor. At that time my family had no insurance so I was not sent to anyone else. He told my mother I had probally had just strained the tendons and ligaments and that I would be okay. I was unable to walk for 2 weeks! From then on my legs always ached. This happened 2 more times before I was a teenager. I never had another one of these eposides after I got to be a teenager, but the aches were always there.
When I got 21 I got pregant with my child, at 5 months pregant I woke up with a terrible pain in my feet. It hurt to walk. I went to my family doctor and he sent me to a orthopidic Dr. At this time he told me I had plantar faciitis and tendintis in my feet and legs, no further testing was done. As time went on my feet and legs hurt me more..I kept going to the orthopidic Dr. He found out that my feet were turned inward and gave me cloth braces to wear to correct them...my legs would give out causing me to fall on several occaisions.
I am now 28 years old the pain is worse then ever and sometimes I find it hard to pick up one foot and put it infront of the other to walk. I hurt so bad I cannot stand to hold my child or have her to hug me at times. I have been to three different orthopdic Drs. and I never get the same answer as to what is wrong with me...these are the conditions I have been told to have (never a dr. agreeing on the same thing.) plantar faciitis, tendintis, marfan syndrome, (I had this ruled out) myositis, connective tissue disease, degenerative back disease, and most recently fibromyalgia. My legs are starting to turn inwards also, my family dr. said this is what is probally causing my hips and back to hurt alot. My family doctor stated she is concerned that my hip joints is going to wear out by the time I am 35 and I would have to have a hip replacement if something is not done.
I have a 3rd cousin who has the same problems as I do but hers are far more advanced than mine. She has to wear metal braces on her legs to turn them so she is able to walk. We are the only 2 in the entire family with this problem. Noone can firgure out what is wrong with her either. If anyone else has this problem or knows of someone who does or might now what it is....please let me know.

Re: Bone and/or muscle problems please help

have you had x-rays and MRI done of the feet/ankles?

This might be the thing that needs to be done at this time since you continue to have problems. This would also let a doctor know if there is soft tissue damage or problems with the bones more closely.

Yes walking in that way can cause problems with the hips and lower back. Mainly because you are not walking in the proper gait - there fore your body is being all thrown out of wack.

No, I have never had any x-rays or MRIs done. when this flared back up I was pregant and they did not want to do anything..for harm of the baby..But each doctor that I go to see has asked me that question also..I tell them no..But they never order any. I might have to go thru my family doctor to get this done.
I forgot to say also I have had a complete blood work up...they say no arthitis, no thyroid problems or anything else they could find. I have an appointment in 2 weeks with my family doctor. I will talk to her about the x-rays and mris and I will update it when I get those done.
Thank you.

Question Re: Bone and/or muscle problems please help

Cassiem:
I have a niece who is approximately 35 years old; she, too, had a few episodes of not being about to walk as a child and has continued to have problems, ever increasing as she ages. She has been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) which is a connective tissue disorder; her joints are hypermobile in addition to having some heart problems related to the disease.

Obviously, I am not trying to diagnose any illness you may have; however, I know how long and difficult it was for her to be diagnosed. I believe she has seen hematologists, rheumatolgists, and lord knows what other types of doctors. However, I can assure you that an orthopaedic doc is not on top of "essential" to her syndrome. I also know that this disease is multi-faceted, with some sufferers having many of the symptoms while others may have only a few.

The Ehlers-Danlos National Foundation has a web site which you may find useful: www.ednf.org

The specific page that gives an overview is www.ednf.org/whatisit.php

Good luck.
