Smile knee joint locking

my kneejoint (right side leg)locks up frequently of late.
I am unable to streach it fully. While contracting there is no problem.locking takes place when ever I pivot my right leg and turn my body to my left.

During such occurances i am unable to stand/put weight on my right leg.
usually i release the locking by standing on my left led and oscillating my right leg like a pendulum.
after about 10-15 oscillations the lock releases and am back to normal.
is orthoscopic surgery my only option ?
am i having a meniscus tear/ligament tear ?
can some one clear my doubts.

This does sound like a meniscus tear. I would have a Doctor look at it before it gets too bad. Good Luck!

i had the same problem earlier this year with my left leg. i went to the orthepedist and he said i might have torm a ligiment. but to be sure they wanted me to have an mri. it turns out i didnt tear a ligiment, if i did i would have needed surgery. instead, there was something wrong with the muscles above my knee. they were to weak or something. i had to do physical therapy to help it. however, there is no way to tell what is wrong until u go to the doctor.

I used to have this problem when I cycled 3-4 hours per day. It helped if i "popped" the joint (I know that everyone can't do this). My knees also used to go out of joint sometimes (It was VERY painful to have them put back into joint). What finally ended this was to cut out the overexercising.
