Hard lump on rib

Hi

I'm a 29 year old male. I have a hard lump on my 8th rib on the right side. It is hard and does not move. It is not painful. I have had a chest x-ray and my GP has said it looks like a fracture that has healed, and the lump was caused by the healing process.

The thing is, I thought fracturing a rib was extremely painful, but I have had no pain whatsoever. Is it possible to fracture a rib and feel no pain? He said he is very doubtful it is anything sinister, but the only way to find out for definite is to have a biopsy. He asked me how I want to proceed, but I have no idea.

Has anyone heard of anything like this before? Is there any possibility it could be something else? Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Hard lump on rib

Hello,

I too have a lump on one of my ribs. It's not painful, but it was found because I have been having severe pain on my right side. The doctors don't really think it's related to that, but then again, they don't really know. It sounds like you may have Costochondritis. Are you experiencing any pain?

Re: Hard lump on rib

Hello I'm experencing really bad pain now.Since Sept it has been hurting(left and right side of ribs)
But back in Sept(this sounds weird guys)but back then I could push some-thing offf my ribs(it felt like a cyst)
Even my family felt it alll over my abdomen back then. But they kept saying it's probably gas bubbles(but gas bubbles I know do not hurt you)
I swear I could litteraly push this offf my ribs and when it was on my ribs it hurt so bad. Then I would push it off and it would float alll over abdomen. Now it is hurting me again.I can feeeel a lump on my ribs.My CT scan is a day after Fathers day(I can't wait for this scan)plus the musles in my arms and legs are very very weak.Realllly weird.I know some-thing is going on.
Thanks guys and see ya alll

Re: Hard lump on rib

Hey jam44 - Did you ever find out what was wrong? I literally have the exact same thing, I thought it was some sort of a strained muscle but I then noticed thsi bump on my rib, it seemed like it was swollen. Didnt think much of it but I still have it about 6 weeks later. Seems to get worse after i workout. And almost complete goes away when i am lying horizontal. Anyone?
