Hi Lauren, Keep the optimism.
I am alot older than you, 51 (or as I prefer to say 40-11

) but I just had surgery for a broken tibia and had an IM rod about a foot long and two screws put in my leg. It also "wigged" me out to have something foreign put in my body. I tried not to think about it. Then, on follow-up visit, the surgeon showed me the x-ray and it really wigged me out. Eventually I just got over it. I'm also sugery averse but I got through that too with the aid of tranquilizers and good pre-surgical meds.
The hardest part is recovery but a laptop really helps. Also, if you find you need to be on crutches, get a woodworkers bib apron with bunches of pockets. You'd be amazed what you can carry!!!! Best wishes to you and your pup!!!!
