New bone formation...help?

Hi everyone. I just have a couple questions about my full body bone scan I had performed 2 weeks ago. I have been having very sharp deep pains in my leg bones mostly in my shins and also in my forearms on the outside (there is no meat or muscle in the area where i get my pain). Sometimes the pain wakes me up from my sleep. It feels like a knife being jabbed into my bone. It is always VERY localized and very sudden. This has been going on for about 3 months but is happening more and more often. It only lasts for maybe 2 seconds at a time. Anyhow, my bone scan results said:

"Intermediate intensity activity present at the right and left anterior tibial tuberosity regions" and also

"Periosteal new bone formation also present along the anterior aspect of the, right greater than left"

However, the drs office called and told me my results came back normal. Is this normal? I just dont get why I would be having new bone formation and be in so much pain?? I am having other things going on right now too....my hair is falling out much much more lately, a lot of upper abdominal pain and discolored toe nails on all toe nails but not fingernails, some numbness in hands occassionally?? I dont know if any of this is related? Should I be concerned about my results or just assume I am okay? Thanks

Re: New bone formation...help?

I wouldn't take the dr. at face value until you get a second, third opinion. Especially with your other symptoms. Do you have a chronic illness? Lupus, RA or thyroid? It would definitely be worth getting a copy of your bone scan and the report and take it to another dr. Good luck!

I would definately get a second opinion. New bone formation typically starts where a break has occurred. Was this a full body radioactive dye scan?
