I broke my 3rd metacarpal on my right (non dominant) hand on March 10th. I fell awkwardly onto my fingers. The fracture is displaced. My doctor did not try to set it. He just put my hand and arm in a cast. I went back to the doctor on May 15 (9 weeks after the cast was put on). My family doctor said the fracture was not healed yet. He wants me to wear the cast for almost another month. If it isn't better by then, he will refer me to an orthopedic surgeon. What is the probability that my fracture will be healed within the next 3 weeks? What type of hardware would be used to secure this type of fracture? If hardware is used to align a fracture, would my hand be put back in a cast after the surgery?
