hello everyone. i spoke to my doctor about this bump i have on my sternum and he told me it was a dislocated rib, but since it doesnt hurt or anything that it was nothing to worry about. my question is, how could i dislocate a rib and not know it. ESPECIALLY at the point where it connects to the sternum. ive never been in any sort of accident where ive taken a strong impact to the chest or anything nor have i ever broken a rib. so it just kind of bothers me that i have this. and i only noticed it a few months ago!
well, as you might know, the ribs are connected to the sternum via apiece of cartilage.
i guess your cartilage, through an unknown process, could have become impacted, broken, displaced, or has grown and abnormality.
if you follow the logical line of the affected rib, does it move freely? do you have pain from pressing on it?
theres alot of things that could have caused that..
no pain at all. thats why the doctor told me not to worry about it. but why would i randomly have this bump? i mean i think i would have noticed it years ago if its always been there. but then again, ive never actually looked for any abnormalitys. could it be a calcium deposit or something? my doctor said within 3 seconds of touching it that it was a dislocated rib though.
