Hi
I started to experience dull pain in my left shin 7 yrs ago the pain would
start when walking or standing ,if it was windy outside the wind would
hurt it feels as if I'm being kicked, as does vibration, loud noises and on
my bad days the quilt on my bed or my clothing all caused the same pain
now 7 yrs later both shins are effected , although each doctor I have
seen all give the impression they are not sure what is causing the pain
I was given Gabapentin which has helped with the pain and I was told it
was Neuralgia but others disagree. At present I now also using Durogesic
pain patches amongst other medication which is fantastic for a day, but
recently I have begun to experience the same problem with my spine,and
I am unable to lie on my back for very long before the pain starts which
wakes me through the night , I recently had a second shoulder opperation
to remove bone growths which had tore through my muscle and tendons
( I had the same opperation on my right shoulder 2 yrs ago ) I was
unconciouse for 6 hours for the second opperation although I was told
the opperation was succesfull I still experience the same pain and arm
weakness and I am now unable to sleep on either side or back the only
way I can now sleep is sitting up. I feel angry because no-one seems to
know or will not tell me what the problem is' I cannot believe there are
no other people suffering from the same problem.At the moment I am
being passed from one hospital department to another I have had physio
for both arms and back but each time I end up in more pain with the
symptoms becoming worse !

Can anyone help please or does anyone have the same problem ?

Go check out the board on Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. this sounds like that might be what have. They would know better but boy, it sounds like to me....it's a pain syndrome.

i have had sharp pains in my shin bones for 16 years, it has progressed to my hands, right arm,shoulder, neck and beginning in my back. like you no one can say what is the cause, only recently i have been diagnosed with disassociative motor disorder which is ludicrus but hey at least they are acknowledging something is wrong at last even if the diagnosis is completely wrong! if i get a proper diagnosis i will let you know, untill then just keep pushing your gp eventually he will get fed up, listen and run some tests to find you an answer! good luck

Thank's for taking the time to pass the information on Jennybyc 'I have read it and it is food for thought , I have the long haul trying to get the message to sink into the medics involved or to jut take heed , I could tell you the facts which have happened to me but it sounds so unbelievable and far fetched one instance I can tell to give you some idea is 24 yrs ago I tried to take up bodybuilding cause I was really puny ( to make matter worse the wife' brothers were all capable to enter Mr Universe ad I was Mr Muscle from the advert ) everything was fine except the bench press I couldn't lift my left arm off the bench ,anyway I jut ignored the problem for years but after visting the Dr about it 12 yrs later when lifting anything at work became really painful I had a young family and could not take time off work ...if I did not have to use my left arm everything was fine I have had physio and one year I was 4 given Cortisone injections ,over the years thing got worse and I was having problems with both arms and my back and legs yet they continued to tell me they could find nothing wrong with my arms and I should be using my arms normally I was told this with my wife present firstly by a specialist and then by my own Gp ! you can probably guess how this made me feel in front of my wife .Then 2 yrs ago after me trying to tell everyone I was not lying someone at the hopital discovered I had bone growths on both shoulders which had ripped through muscle and tendons in both arms I have had opperations to remove the growths and repair the damage for the opperation on the left arm I was not woken and back on the ward until 6 hours ( I have been told this will happen again as the years go by ) I am now in total dispair I have other problems and I have no-one to back me ,recently the arm specialist sent me for a MRI scan on my neck ( I am thankful to her ) anyway the reults were 3 prolpsed discs and nerve damage on 3 levels but it seems like I dreamed the whole results up there is no such report anywhere ! he has told me and my wife I need to see a shrink ! I am gobsmacked to say the least .
Sorry for droning on but I need to tell people the truth because I cannot get my head around it

I know exactly what you mean Yellowted ! it's about time the NHS was sorted out I think there are so many people in important places who are not capable to do the job ,if someone has qualifications from a third world country they should have to re-sit training and tests for the qualifications to mean something in a more advanced country' I don't think the standards are the same . After 14 years of trying to get at the truth I was given a diagnosis after having variouse tets done I was told I had Myasthinia Gravis , I was even started on the medication to treat it ! but I complained about a young male nurse and a studend reading out my health history in a loud manner so everyone could hear . I did not want other patients knowing everything ' then the next day I was aked if I would like to go home for the weekend then return for other tests to be carried out , I agreed but when I was not contacted I phoned the hospital and was told Xrays and other tests had been cancelled because I was supposed to of been told I told a student I was going to refuse Xrays and tests.Now I am back to quare one again
it looks like my own Gp has washed his hands of me .....just because I complained about a ginger haired student and a young male nurse ( I have nothing about ginger haired people by the way ) but I have sympathy with you I have a idea about the way we get treated just because they do not have a clue ...Lets face it if we couldn't do our jobs we would be sacked ! why should the patients suffer just because a specialist who probably managed to get qualification in a third world country doesn't have a clue ?
I will still have to fight my cause to the end because I have no option but to fight on ' if I don't that would be telling everyone that the specialist/ hopital were telling the truth and I am lying ! and I certainly am not .
If I win the lottery heads will roll in court
I really hope you get treated better

like you i have been told i need psychotherapy! they say i am depressed and have so much anger inside me that i do not know how much is in me! then added but we do! it is crazy!!!! and to top it off, because they say it is all in my head and i am the only one who can change it i do not fit the OT criteria for help with anything!!! i am to a point where i can't walk, they gave me a wheelchair that doesn't work, but will not fit a ramp so i can take it out! they gave me a bath lift so i can bathe, but no way of getting upstairs to use it! i built with help my own ramp using 4inch timber and anti slip lino to be told i have not to use it cos wood rots! and that a mobility scooter will not help me eventhough i am 38 and live alone !!! where do they get their brains??? out of a cornflake packet i think! angry of course i am angry, but they cant see that it is them making rediculous statements and the system that is making me angry!!! aaagh!!!!! sorry i just needed to rant!!!

The most annoying thing is if I visit just a certain hospital I get treat like so strange ! I have received results from other hospitals diagnosises such as prolapsed discs, 2 neck dissorders,bone conditions and over the years. I but this one hospital which is my nearest stone walled me ever since complaining a number of years ago (soon afterwards the scan results went missing from my file' I am not crazy I know how this sounds ! but I was told by a head nurse at a hospital where I was sent for physyotherapy and also consultant at another hospital who by the way was angry with me when I went to see him because he couldn't find the evidance to say I had the scan 2 years previouse, luckily for me at the time he believed my story and another scan confirmed a seriouse bone problem )I had to return to the hospital in question recently for a result and I was given information ...but again weeks later there is no record . I may as well of been called a liar while my wife present ! I wish I knew what to do next, before I made the complaint I was told by a consultant that my symptom could well be a new form of a Nerurological condition' I have a few diagnosises at the moment but my name has been dragged through the mud by a hospital which has some very scary consultants and young Dr's and which has a patient complaints department which made very strange and threatening comments to me over the phone how can this hospital get away with it ? . I have left strict orders with family not to allow me to be taken to this hospital if anything should happen to me! I would rather die on my way to another hospital miles away because I know I will have better odds of surviving,I need help but don't know where to start or look
