how long for the air boot?

6 weeks since i broke my right lower fibula, 2 weeks in a cast. I got an airboot which i hardly ever wore unless i went outdoors for protection. Now i'm told to start bearing weight, but only with the airboot. Told i can lose the crutches after a week of bearing weight if i want, but to keep the boot on. i find i walk very awkwardly with the boot, since it is about 2 inches higher then my good leg. my question is has anyone tried bearing weight without the boot?

Re: how long for the air boot?

Hi in Vancouver, I see the sun is shining ! These boots are super good but awkward because of thier height. One secret is get a old pair shoes and have them built up so your leg lengths are almost equal. Start your weight bearing by using a cane in the opposite hand from the broken ankle so the cane and fracture side hit the ground at the same time and so distribute the weight and gradually put more on the fracture leg. It would be unwise not to wear the boot, why take the chance.

DON'T be hasty...... I too wondered how on earth one managed the "height" difference!! My moonboot is absolutely invaluable protection and support. You WILL get the hang of "rolling" your foot if you try long enough! HANG IN THERE - the advantages far outweigh the inconvenience

Re: how long for the air boot?

Don't worry about the style/color/etc of the shoe. Just wear one that is the same height as the boot. It will make walking much easier and your hips and knees will thank you down the road.
