Scaphoid Surgery not worked

hi, so far this story does not have a good outcome so i'd suggest not reading if you get upset hearing negative stories when you have a scaphoid fracture that might or does need surgery

Husband had a motorbike accident back in october 2011

taken by amulance to A&E (ER) and on his notes it says he was only complaining of significant left wrist pain

taken to xray and as they moved his arm to take the xray he screamed out as his elbow hurt and they only xrayed that - fracture confirmed

next day attended #clinic and told elbow fractured and wrist examined by consultant and were told nothing wrong with it all

4 weeks later follow up in fracture clinic - again dh complains of wrist pain and is dismissed and told his elbow NOT fractured (houseman not consulant - we shall call him Dr A)

Back 4 weeks later and told by consultant that yes you did # elbow and your wrist is just referred pain

DH on massive amounts of painkillers as wrist is so bad but dismissed again

After 3 months post accident sees another consultant and he gives him an arm splint and is told its tendon damage from the elbow and come back in a month

Go back 4 months post accident and dh says please xray my wrist as occupational health say it sounds like my scaphoid

sees Dr A who says he will xray to "shut you up" about your wrist, there is nothing wrong

come back from xray and get sent straight to ct being told "oh, your occupational health dept were correct"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A month later has surgery to fix scaphoid with bone graft from hip and herbert screw

DH can't walk post surgery and is in agony

After another month they admit they damaged the tendons in his leg when they did the surgery

Wrist still agony (op was in march)

In june dh and i question Dr A on xray for that month as it looks like screw is coming out of bottom of scaphiod

Get told we are being silly and its now healing - having been told it wasn't healing at all other appt's and the # looks the same to us (well worse actually)

See's consultant yesterday (July) and is told that the fracture is NOT healing and that the screw has come out the bottom of the scaphoid and has damaged his radius bone

He's booked for "urgent" surgery - earliest will be next week owing ot his latex allergy and need for a deep cleansed operating theatre and own room (latex allergy is severe)

Its the ONLY appt I missed with him so he was so shocked he walked out without asking ANY questions

Has anyone gone through this and can give us a ray of hope?

Husband is in agony and has been since october 2011, he can't sleep, is a horrid person to live with due to short tempter off the pain, lack of sleep and pain killers (real heavy duty ones he's now been on for months)

We don't even know what they can do

the screw has come out cos the bone graft hasn't worked and the bone is dying so the screw has fallen down as the bone below died so it has been able to work its way down - as the stupid Dr A refereed him for physio on a non unioned fracture - and forgot to tell the phyiso's it was non-unioned, even with the surgery - they thought it was a fixed by surgery injury not an unfixed after surgery so were really moving it big time!!!

Scared he's going to loose use of his wrist - and with it job

He has no sick pay, no holiday left and we are in turmoil here as you can imagine

any ideas what they might be doing to him next week?

we've called the surgeon's secretary and asked for a call back but so far nothing

rural area so only one hospital around here so can't move hosptials, no private hospitals around, even if he had pmi!

sorry for moan but this is really getting us all down now as you can imagine
