dark green poo ??? - Bowel Disorders Message Board

Why do i have dark green poo most of the time ,Is this normal ??? Some times it goes back to its normal tan to brown then most of the time its that very dark green color , almost black looking but not quite .Im eating all the right foods and all, nothing really changed in my diet?? only med i take is prevacid for berrets esopheges (spelled wrong sry) What do you guys think ,please help, thank you.

Hi Z06:

Black stools can be caused by bleeding higher up in the GI tract in which case they tend to be tarry and maybe have fresh blood, or if you take a fair amount of bismuth (pepto bismol) or iron it often produces black stools. Certain veggies and berries can change it to other dark colors, or produce a distinct color. Pathologic stools are usually grayish or whitish and glistening.

You don't mention consistency... is it formed, flat, round, ribbon-like, or normal, etc. That might help.

Most of the time it is normal, but in the morning it is in little pieces. then other times of the day it can be in small chunks at a time. feels like in the morning that everything comes to a stop during the nite cuz my gut is killing me in the morning and wakes me up in pain,as if everything is jammed up.but this dark color is bothering me,there is no sighn of blood that i can see.
