Stomachaches - Bowel Disorders Message Board

Ever since I can remember I have gotten really bad stomachaches, then very "explosive" soft stools, or diarreah. Sometimes I have to make two or three trips because at first I feel like it's over, then it comes back. I feel fine after I go but while I'm going, I have kind of what I can only describe as the way my contractions felt when I had my kids. I always thought it was just that I ate too much or too much fruit or veggies. Before it has been just once in a while, but lately it is at least once a day, sometimes four or five times. I have been to a colorectal surgeon for hemmorhoids and fissures about six months ago but I didn't mention it because I thought it was "normal" for me, and I was going normally, even constipated a little at times. Should I make an appt. with the colorectal doctor since I have been seeing him or should I make an appt. with a gastro? Also if anyone has any advice or ideas on what is wrong, I would appreciate it.

Yeah, I would schedule an appointment with an Internist or a Gastro. since that's more of what there specialty is.

Have you been eating anything out of the ordinary? Lots of sugar or carbs? Do you have blood in your stool when you do have bowel movements?

Thanks. I do eat a lot of carbs. I do have a little blood on the paper. But I have been to the colorectal surgeon twice for this. He assured me it is hems and fissures.

By all means mention these symptoms to your doctor. For years I dismissed similar symptoms as being "normal for me" because by then they HAD become "normal" for me. It was what I was used to. I remembered having had regular firm BMs instead of alternating diarrhea and explosive soft BMs, but the change had been gradual and coincided with stress in my life and, well ... to make a long story short, I should have told the doctor years before I ended up with real problems as a result of untreated diverticulosis.

There are a lot of different things that cause these kinds of symptoms, some benign and some not so benign. Self-diagnosis is a slippery business. Better to be safe and just mention it, then let the doctor rule out anything bad. Why wait until your body tells you you've waited too long?
